LG webOS 9.0 put to the test: UH5Q and UP5Q

Sixty Test Scenarios across 15 Test Groups reveal how LG's two hardware tiers handle real-world digital signage workloads — and where the platform finally breaks through its long-standing limitations.
Executive summary
SoC displays are being asked to do more than ever: browser-rendered applications, dynamic HTML5 content, UHD assets, mixed-content playback, and synchronized video walls — workloads that once required an external media player. This independent report, developed in cooperation with Screenfeed, benchmarks LG webOS 9.0 across the UH5Q and UP5Q series to show exactly which workloads each tier can handle, where the boundaries sit, and what that means for real deployments.
The results demonstrate clear differences between the two performance tiers — and a genuine first for the platform:
UP5Q passed all 60 Test Scenarios (100%) — the strongest overall performance signageOS has observed to date
UP5Q sets a new standard for HTML5 performance and is the first webOS model tested by signageOS to resolve long-standing limitations in portrait and UHD playback
UH5Q passed 54 of 60 (90%), with its unmet criteria concentrated almost entirely in UHD workloads — every Full HD video scenario passed without exception
Real-world HTML5 content from Screenfeed — weather, sports, and news applications — was tested alongside synthetic benchmarks, on physical devices, against defined Acceptance Criteria
Whether you're specifying displays for a new deployment or deciding if a SoC can replace your media players, this report gives you the workload-by-workload evidence to match the device to the job.
